F1 For Mac Os X

Blender requires F-keys such as F12 and numpad. The numpad emulation works for me, but I am unable to get the function keys such as F1, F4 and F12 working. For example, F12 should do rendering. So how can I use Blender with a MacBook?

To clarify and expand on HHH's comments: in at least some recent versions of OS X, F8, F9, F10, and F12 are set by default as shortcuts to control Expose, Spaces, and Dashboard. Houbysoft's and L2G's solutions don't work in this case; holding fn activates Expose/etc, and checking "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" in System Preferences/Keyboard just means you get Expose from the unmodified function key instead of from fn + function key.

F1 For Mac Os X

To expand on @Robert's solution (which in turn expands on @houbysoft's solution), to get F11 and F12 to execute application-specific functions (such as using F12 to open the developer tools in Chrome), you'll need to:

Do you have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016 and later) or a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports and later)? If so, your physical function keys are replaced by the Touch Bar, which changes automatically based on the apps you're using.

Open the Apple menu and select System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard > Modifier Keys. Choose a function key and use the pop-up menu to designate an action for it. If you ever want to change the function keys back to what they were originally, select Restore Defaults.

When you press one of the function keys in an Adobe application on Mac OS, the application does not perform the expected action. (The function keys are the keys at the top of your keyboard, labeled F1, F2, and so on.)

To make Mac OS interpret F1, F2, and so on, as function keys, hold down the Fn key when you press a function key. For example, in an Adobe application that uses F1 as a keyboard shortcut, hold down Fn and press F1.

You can also make Mac OS interpret F1, F2, and so on, as function keys by default. (If you do so, then you can still perform those keys' OS-level commands by holding the Fn key when you press them.) Do the following:

This issue occurs when some of the function keys on your system are assigned to OS-level commands. For example, some keys adjust the screen brightness, control media playback, or activate Dashboard, Exposé, or Spaces.

On some keyboards, certain function keys are labeled to denote that, by default, these keys perform OS-level commands. Keyboards with these labels (icons) include the aluminum Apple Keyboard and the keyboards on some laptop Macintosh computers.

This summer [2019], after the MacOS Mojave updates (either to 10.14.5 or .6), my Mathematica 11.3 stopped being able to 'find' the documentation for anything that I click on, or even search for in the DocumentationCenter. Doing either simply gives "Your search - XXX - Documentation Center did not match any documents".So to look at any help, I must prepend 'ref/' to whatever I'm searching for. I also notice that there are lots of error messages, most seeming to relate to JLink/Java...maybe related?

By default, Mac OS X uses the F keys to control items such as volume and brightness. To use an F key for a game command hold down the fn key, then press the F key you wish to use.

You should also mention the wonderful little app called Display Menu, available in the Mac App Store. This brings display options back to the menubar where they belong! You can quickly enable/disable mirroring and set the resolution of internal or external displays. Definitely worth a look. I use it all the time.

Games such as the F1 series take a rather serious approach to racing, concentrating on realistic reproduction of racing tracks, terrain and weather, as well as the handling of your car in order to really test your driving skills.

The main single-player Career mode throws you straight in as a pro driver representing your team in five different types of race events that take place on realistic reproductions of tracks ranging from Indianapolis Speedway to the streets of Barcelona. Touring events are perhaps the most realistic, dropping you into a crowded grid where you have to jostle with closely packed rival cars and carefully pick your way to the front of the pack. Open Wheel racing is the most demanding, though, with very light, rear-drive cars that require really careful handling. At the other extreme are the Tuner events, which are more like traditional Grid games, allowing you to entertain the crowds as you show off your drifting and other skills.

The original Micro Machines games were very popular on various consoles way back when. This 2017 update is an attempt to recapture the retro charm of the original games, whilst also introducing more modern online, multiplayer elements.

That makes it a good game for a bit of post-pub fun with your friends, but Micro Machines will also be fun for younger players who can just enjoy the table-top racing action with their favourite toy cars, fire engines and other vehicles.

But, once the engine starts revving up, and the dust starts flying, the game does a great job of capturing the high-speed thrills of racing, as you tilt over and go screeching around a hairpin bend, and weaving through the field to grab the lead. Along with the Career mode, the game also allows you to represent your country in the Monster Energy mode, or you can create a custom series of races in Championship mode. Alternatively, for a quick fix of two-wheel action, you can tackle individual races in the Time Attack and Grand Prix modes.

I connect to my server from Terminal in Mac OS X 10.5. When I run Midnight Commander there I cannot use function keys like F10 to close MC even I cannot use mouse to control MC. Any idea why function keys don't work ?

Function keys are used to control both software and hardware functions as well as Dashboard and Expose in Mac OS X. If you have a Macbook Pro, F1 and F2 control screen lighting, F10 mutes the speakers, etc.

Is the checkbox "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" on the "Keyboard tab" checked? If it's not, you need to press Fn+F10 for Mac OS to register a F10 key press. Otherwise, you're just toggling mute speakers (or whatever you have on F10).

Check the second tab, "Keyboard Shortcuts", especially "Dashboard & Dock", and "Exposé & Spaces", if F10 is used for one of these functions. If it is, the key press is intercepted before Terminal receives it.

This answer was written for Mac OS X 10.6, I don't know if those dialogs were changed. If step 2 above does not work, check the Dashboard/Expose/Spaces preference pane in System Preferences, the same settings should be available there.

Note: If you're using a Mac and are having trouble with the function keys, you may need to set your F keys to function as function keys. You can do this by going to System Preferences > Keyboard, going to the Keyboard area, and checking the "Use all F1, F2, etc" box.
